Walking in Christ

Pastor Chang Kim

Colossians 2:6-7

6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

Introduction: Christ is sufficient.

Song “You Are My All in All”.

I.          Walk in H v6

6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him

To stand firm does not mean to stand still. They must continue to walk in Him.

In a broader term, walking in Christ means living in union with Him. It means to maintain a lifestyle patterned after Christ. It means to pattern their lives after Christ.

1 John 2:6 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

Walking in Christ is how we become Christ-like.

II.        Live by F v7a

7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith

Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

In order to live by faith, we need to have a spirit and an attitude that is committed and wholly devoted to Christ.

III.      Overflowing with T v7b

just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving

Hebrews 13:15 15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.

Here are some alternatives to a life of thanksgiving:

1. Negative thinking – Seeing the bad in everything.

Proverbs 17:22 A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

2. Anger

James 1:19-20 19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

3.  Arrogance/Pride

4.  Worldliness

Matthew 6:24 24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

With a little practice anyone can master the art of thankfulness. Positive thinking, joy, humility and godliness.

Conclusion: Luke 17:11-19 11 On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance 13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” 14 When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; 16 and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

Discussion Questions

  1. How do we find sufficiency in Christ?

  2. What are some ways we can walk in Christ?

  3. What leads to thanksgiving?
