Made Alive Together With Him

Minister Joaquin Chavez

Colossians 2:11-15

11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

Bury the old, live with the new

  • We came to Jesus for a reason. We wanted to be free of our sins, mistakes, failures, regrets, fears and sorrows.

  • When we were baptized, we are asking for our old selves to die, and believe Jesus is going to help us live differently.

  • If we believe Jesus conquered death and was resurrected, we must believe He resurrected us to live better

  • Factory reset

  • Born again is being free of all the things that changed us from God’s original design. We have a second chance to live differently. God ensures we will by filling us with the Holy Spirit to lead us in our new ways and lives.

Made alive together with Him

  • Jesus is offering a new life if you follow Him

  • The quality of the new life will be determined by how much we have learned from our pasts and make better decisions

  • God reshapes our material

Ephesians 4:20-24

20 But that is not the way you learned Christ!— 21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

1.     Doesn’t throw away our pasts or experiences (Pottery, Gold)

2.     Allows more of me to come out

3.     Letting me be me

4.     Him bringing more of Him out

Living in triumph

  • Do Christians live walking around in non-stop triumphant feelings and joy

  • Sometimes it feels like you are reliving your past choices to see if you have learned from your mistakes. Like we are being tested if we are new/born again

  • We are facing similar situations because we are being who we have always been. The same situations come because we are not living as a different person. We are handling all the situations better because we are being who God always made us to be.

  • Living with this new resolve, shows how much Jesus has made us alive together with Him.

  • There is an unshakeable joy when you have tasted this new way of living and makes you want Jesus to bring every part of you back to life

Colossians 2:6-7

6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

Applications

Memorize a verse every week. Write it on a board at the start of every day to help you live right

Start your day with a worship song and a quick meditation

Reflect on what areas you have not put to death. Find material to help you break free and live new in that area

Find a new routine as the Lord leads you

List out all the characteristics you want to have or the person of faith you want to be. Pray over this list and ask the Lord to help you live the new life he wants you to have

Make a plan for one area at a time to bring back to life (failure to plan is planning to fail)

Part to bring back to life and Plan to make it happen

Caring for and protecting my people

Going to get pictures of all the youth to put up on my wall at home so I can pray for them more and seek God’s protection for them

Discipline

Going to make a daily, weekly, and monthly schedule for the next month. I will have someone hold me accountable and grade my execution

Pure heart

Bring back my hospitality to host more people to share fellowship with and surround myself with people being led by the Holy Spirit

Pure mind

Start each day writing out my memory verse for the week. Put up a white board in my place to write the verse out every day. Will do this every week for the rest of the year (Today: Isaiah 40:31)

 Questions:

1.     How many times have you had to reinvent yourself after facing setbacks?

2.     Would other people say you are completely different after accepting Jesus?

3.     What is one thing you are going to do new that will help bring back an area to life?
