Trust
Pastor Chang Kim
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Introduction: This is a reminder to us all—young and old—of God’s greatness and cautioning that putting our confidence in Him is an all or nothing deal.
The book of Proverbs is essentially a course provided by King Solomon for his children, a course in wisdom.
I. Trust in the L v5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
C.S. Lewis in Mere Christianity says: In God you come up against something which is in every respect immeasurably superior to yourself. Unless you know God as that—and, therefore, know yourself as nothing in comparison—you do not know God at all. As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.
One of the questions that is always posed to those who especially graduate high school is this: “Will they continue with God?” The better question should be: “Do they know God?”
To trust means to wholly rely upon God, His promises, wisdom, power and love to help us in every circumstance. Trusting in the Lord begins by believing in Jesus for salvation. Then comes getting to know God more as we spend time in prayer and Bible study. The more we know God, the more we love Him, the more we love Him, the more we will trust in Him alone, with all our heart.
Jeremiah 17:7-8
II. Trust in the Lord’s U v5
Do not lean on your own understanding
Augustine once said “If I believe the parts of the Bible I want to believe, and I disbelieve the parts that I don’t want to believe, then it’s not the Bible I believe. It’s myself.”
Jim Elliot when he was at Wheaton College near Chicago said he was studying not for a bachelor’s degree but for us AUG. 2 Timothy 2:15 in KJV 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. That’s what I want to get out of this. I want to be approved unto God.
III. A God in all your ways v6
6 In all your ways acknowledge him
Acknowledge means:
· To accept or admit the existence or truth of
· To express or display gratitude for or appreciation of
· To show that one has noticed or recognized someone by making a gesture or greeting
Psalm 51:10-12 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Conclusion:
The world will continue to teach and value self-sufficiency and independence. Proverbs 3:5-6 is teaching us to trust in the One who never fails.
