Resurrection Life in Christ
Pastor Chang Kim
Colossians 3:1-4
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Introduction
It is not just to believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus, how through His death and resurrection that we have been reconciled to God. It is more than just believing, it is to be personally received, it is intended to change life, it is intended to become a living reality in the lives of those who believe and receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Resurrection is the foundational principle for truly living the Christian life.
I. Set Your M on Things Above vv1-2
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him, and he with me.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.[a] The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
St. Augustine said, “Christ is not valued at all unless He is valued above all.”
Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world,[c] but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
II. Know We Have L in Christ vv3-4
3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Philippians 3:10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death
The word “hidden” implies both concealment and safety.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 3:2 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
Paul encourages us to continue to look upward to Christ’s reign over us in heaven and also to look forward to His return for us.
Conclusion
As we draw near to God, we put to death our mean, selfish, and sinful ways, the old patterns of living cannot survive. We live in the world, but we must not let the world live in us.
The more we set our mind on Christ and the closer we draw in our relationship to Jesus, the more we will leave the world behind.
